Who we are
We are the only US registered charity exclusively dedicated to supporting the vital work of the Charles Darwin Foundation in the Galapagos Islands.
The Charles Darwin Foundation is a Belgian AISBL and the world’s leading science-based organization protecting the Galapagos.
Founded in 2021, Friends of the Charles Darwin Foundation for the Galapagos Islands raises funds to support the Foundation's work at the Charles Darwin Research Station, where cutting-edge science, conservation, and environmental education come together to safeguard the islands for generations to come.

Success Stories
Giant tortoise breeding program
In 1965, CDF established a giant tortoise breeding program—beginning with endangered eggs from Pinzón Island—that has since helped reintroduce over 8,000 tortoises into the wild.
Eradicating introduced species
Project Isabela, launched with the Galapagos National Park in 1997, aimed to remove invasive goats, donkeys, and pigs threatening native species on Isabela, Santiago, and Pinta islands–a decade-long effort.
Establishment of the Galapagos Marine Reserve
With the approval of the Special Law for Galapagos, the Galapagos Marine Reserve was created in 1998–uniting protected waters into a single, 138,000 km² reserve.
Biological control program
After years of research by CDF, the Australian ladybug was introduced in 2002 as the first biological control in Galapagos, effectively managing the invasive cottony cushion scale, which threatened 98 native plants.
