Doug is an attorney and private investor in Mill Valley, CA, focused on public and private equity (principal, North Ridge Investment Management, a family office) and commercial real estate (partner, Marin Country Mart). He holds degrees from Stanford (AB 1982; Anthropology, Values, Technology & Society (Honors)), the University of Washington School of Law (JD 1989; editor, Washington Law Review), and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government (MPA 1995; Energy Policy). Doug taught English at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China (1983-85), and practiced law with Foster, Pepper & Shefelman in Seattle (1989-1993). He served as Executive Vice President of the Energy Foundation (a partnership of international philanthropies) in San Francisco and Beijing (1995-2007), and co-founded and managed the China Sustainable Energy Program, an energy efficiency and renewable energy policy development initiative with China’s central and provincial governments. He serves on several NGO boards, including (1) Treasurer & Finance/Audit Chair of the Regulatory Assistance Project, focused on zero-carbon energy policy development in the U.S., EU, India, China, Southeast Asia, and Brazil; (2) the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Doug and his wife Emilie reside in Mill Valley, California, and have three sons.
